In your original thread you made the following remarks:
Tonight I experienced another of so many examples of the telepathic connection that exists between myself and W.
One detail about myself that I had not revealed yet is that I have been studying mediumship and psychic development for almost 15 years. Today, in yoga class, while we were in the relaxation meditation portion of the class, I was very calm and collected - not thinking about my wife - when suddenly I received an image and thought in my mind's eye that she was ingaged in an act of unfaithful betrayal at that moment. I dismissed that thought picture as worry and paranoia and went on with my day.
Would you mind telling us (or me) a little more about how one goes about developing his/her psychic abilities? Some may think this is hocus-pocus, but I think there is something to it. I have never felt I could tap into this part of me. It is something I’ve always wanted to do, and something that has always eluded me. Long ago I used to know a retired man who day traded the futures markets. He could look at the charts and just “feel” which way the market would trade. Of course there was a lot of work and study behind that, but in the end, his intuition guided him.
I believe my problem was being too “tight,” too controlled, too scared, too egotistical to let go of a wrong decision and change course when the signs were screaming. I think a lot of what I have learned through my marriage over the past few years has helped to flush a lot of this out.
I have wanted to clear out these pre-existing biases so I could have a clean slate to work with. I don’t know if I am there yet, but I am better than I was. What I don’t know anything about is how to build my intuition upon this clean(er) slate. Can you offer any advice?
BTW, I think this could be valuable for everyone, not just for investment purposes, but for learning to “read” our spouse.
MoJo has it when it comes to buying used books. I suspect it comes from years and years of practice. Like you said having a willingness to be wrong till you get better.
I have trouble believing in telepathic connection, but no trouble with experience based intuition. I think lots of people have the potential to develop intuition and the ability to interpret patterns. After all, is there really that many new things in the world that don't have a basis built on some existing knowledge or established patterns?
Cobra, I like the idea "learning to read" someone. The first thing I think you have to do is stop thinking about what you think about the OP and stop thinking about a reply you are drafting in your mind that is commonly called a response to what the OP said or did.
You have to see where they are coming from and look at patterns from past experiences to see where they were going, and factor in current information.

Hi Cobra,
Let me first say that even though I have been studying mediumship for 15 years through an on-going graduate class at a spiritual institute, I do not consider myself an expert. Far from it, but I might be able to offer some insights.
I do believe that anyone can develop or enhance their intuition, mediumship abilities, psychic faculties, or extra sensory perception, though discipline and practice. Just like learning a musical instrument, some persons have more "natural" abilities, and others might need to work harder to achieve similar results.
Your second paragraph that I quoted, is a good place to examine the challenges and paradoxes of this pursuit. Mental discipline is key, and learning how to calm your mind is the best place to start. Meditation or other relaxation techniques, will help you develop this control. But the type of control I am talking about is you having control over your ego, and not having your mind be reactive to emotions, fears, etc. I still struggle with this, and I honestly am having trouble in my current situation with my WAW.
The next key elements are belief and faith in what you are doing, and faith that you can develop these abilites that are more related to your spirit than to physical reality. Belief that you do have a spirit guide or guardian who is willing to assist you and work with you.
It is important to understand the differences between different ways of knowing or receiving information, and I can briefly describe them here.
1. Psychic information - Each of us has an energy field which surrounds us, and this energy field contains information about our personality, past experiences, current feelings, emotions, physical conditions, potential future occurances, etc. Psychics or sensitive persons can access information about us through our energy field or from objects we have interacted with.
2. Telepathic communication - Communication without words, across long distances or in the same locale, can occur frequently between two persons who have developed a close bond or familiar frequency, or it can also occur between a person and their beloved pet. This communication can be in the form of pictures or clear thoughts that are instantly transferred or received.
3. Mediumship - Communication with a spirit loved one, like a relative or friend who has died and is continuing life on the astral plane, or communication from a spirit guide who might be linking to the medium from a higher realm. In most cases, a medium who has developed the ability to link to the spirit world is necessary for clear communication to take place between the spirit communicator and the desired recipient of the messages. Mediums can receive information clairvoyantly (seeing images), clairaudiently (hearing information, spoken words, etc.) or Clairsentiently (clear sensing of emotions, or feelings that inform)
This is just scratching the surface of the basics. If you have more specific questions, I would be happy to address them here. I also might be able to recommend certain books or other materials based on what you need to know.
The thing is, when it comes to divorce busting in the emotional situations we find ourselves in, it is very hard to separate out the imagination from the authentic information, the intuition from the fear-based hunch. I appreciated the input from a few persons on my thread who were warning me about this last week, because it is a legitimate concern.

The fact of the matter is that we live in a world ruled by probability rather than clockwork. Your friend is just like the racetrack gambler who has developed a good feeling for horseflesh and the million other variables that go into a horse race. There's just no getting around the fact that in the end it is a gamble, not a sure thing. Have you tied up your resources in a relationship that is never going to pay more than 3% out of fear that you might lose it all on a riskier proposition with higher potential payoff? Perhaps the function of this BB is to make this type of "guess" more educated since none of us can accumulate enough experience about primary relationships on our own. When we apply the principles of SSM or PM to our situations this is no different than trying to gain leverage through the application of an expert system when trading stocks.

For the most part I agree with you. Successful trading has a lot to do with discipline, waiting until the odds are in your favor, much like poker, then applying trading rules, limiting losses, etc. But the idea of an efficient market has been blown out of the water by some traders who can consistently beat the odds year after year. My friend was one of those and I know he had an instinctive, intuitive feel for the markets. "Behavioral finance" is the term for this.
Let's start with something specific. In one of my old jobs, there were two people who claimed to be able to see people's auras. They seemed to see the same patterns in the same people. I have no idea how they can "see" something that is not physically there, otherwise we could all see it. But I think they said they "envisioned" the aura, maybe in their mind, and it formed almost an overlay with the actual vision through the eyes.
Can you see auras? If so, have you always been able to see them? If not, how did you develop the ability?

Well, I do a lot of this as a book trader. I have to consider the behavior of my competition, the folks who are actually selling the books, socioeconomic factors that effect the quality of books available in a region and what my buying public wants or needs. People pay more for books that they feel like they need than they are willing to pay for books that they want. So, for instance, when I come across an 1889 book on the electrical wiring of multi-story buildings I ask myself "Who will buy this book and how much will they pay?" but I don't really take the time to ask and answer the question, I just sort of instantly conjure up an image of the guy who is in charge of some major restoration project and I "intuit" that he will pay good money for the book. In the course of a 2 hour book sale I will make thousands of decisions along these lines. I don't have time to really think anything out. Of course, I also have electronic devices that give me database information based on bar code reads but I gain no competitive advantage through the use of these devices because all the scanners who attend the sales have these also.

Cemar did the person intuit purchase orders independant of any data or did he make he organically make judgements after due dillagance and tracking market movement?
I happen to be reading "Blink" right now, and think Cobra should read it. Just finished a chapter on how to read people's expressions. It is not a how-to guide, but rather, recognizes that there are things we perceive that are beyond our conscious perception. Fascinating stuff.

Was this question for me? If so, the person I refer to did a lot of work on technical analysis. At the time I did a lot of it too, an even publish a morning technical market commentary to a small sister brokerage company. I have long ago learned to mostly ignore fundamentals. I do watch them for overall valuations levels and keep my fair market value model updated, but this is more important for setting or confirming the secular market cycle and direction.
IMO swings in the markets require technicals, whether that be tape reading, elliott wave analysis, cycle analysis, investor sentiment, etc.
Hairdog,

I used to get into palm reading, looking not only at the lines, but the overall shape and “type” of the hand and fingers, color, finger nails, how the person holds and uses his/her hands. I found the insight to be quite useful and fairly accurate, at least as far as grouping people in general buckets. I also had a book long ago from my mom, I think, that gave similar ways of analyzing a person’ face. The set of the eyes, nose, mouth, the proportions between these, the type of ear, all this told you a little bit about the person.
Going back to that old trader I knew, and other people I have known who I believe have an intuitive gift, I do know he had what the Japanese call the “mystic cross” in both his palms. That is usually a sure sign that the person has good intuitive or premonition abilities.
There are usually two lines running horizontally across the palm, from the left and the right. The one starting between the thumb and index finger is the “head” line, pertaining to intellect, rationality, etc. The one starting below the pinky is the “heart” line, pertaining to emotion. Sometimes these two lines are one (implying that person can be very obstinate and opinionated). Another line usually starts close to the beginning of the head line, and may even branch from the head line. This is your life line and speaks toward your health and life.
I remember my middle brother’s wife had a huge “island” on her life line. I told her that could mean a severe life threatening illness or trauma, which she may or may not survive. Later it turned out she had AIDs and eventually died.
Often parallel to this life line is another line running vertically through the middle of the palm up toward either the middle or index finger. This is your “fate” line and deals with your successfulness in life. This line usually crosses through the head and heart lines. If between the head and the heart there is another small line that crosses the fate line, making an “X” between the head and heart, then you have the mystic cross.
