I have Hashimotos as well. Lots of interesting info out there about what might cause it.

I know my hyopthyroidism contributed GREATLY to the demise of my marriage. I was undiagnosed for too long after the birth of my son. I finally got on the right meds ONE MONTH before he dropped the bomb...by then it was just too much for him to handle. I could kick myself.

I'll pass your note along to Mary! (Her new book is on auto-immune disorders, Hashimotos is one...)

Dotto, just show him what he'd be giving up if he leaves you. be nice and upbeat and FUN!! (You know, the way you were when he met you). He's definitely still attracted to you. This MLC is a bitch ain't it? We're doing pretty good here. He said 2 days ago he doesn't want a D. But is still unhappy in his job and wants to become a FT fire fighter. I hope he gets it, I want him to be happy! Have fun at the cottage. Let me know how it goes. lisa

JML, you know what I mean when I say that if Sage had dropped the bomb on a throughly brain-fogged me I probably would have killed myself. If he'd done it one week earlier, I probably would have overreacted and kicked him to the moon which was what he was expecting me to do. As it was, I sensed a Balance in my system and a smile within my soul one week before the bomb. I 'knew' that my labido was back and I wanted to get busy and make things up to my H. Huge Sigh.

I keep thinking that these MLC guys would progress faster if they understood that a complete physical/through blood work might dx any hormonal problems. You and I know how one hormone affects everything in the mind and body.

My H went for a physical in June but never went back for the results. I can only twiddle my thumbs.

Tiel now knows that her H has a dx health problem, a disease, if you will. Here's a golden opportunity for her to become knowlegable and supportive.

Learning about hypo-t will help her understand some of the stuff her H has done too.

On Mary's bb I log in as Susei Q---how about you?

Lily, I haven't been on her boards in a long time, but I'm JODYL when I do. Actually, if you get her newsletters, etc. she'll be re-running my article(s) soon. I wrote one on Thanksgiving, one on Santa and one on winter. Just some funny things. I think this is the 3rd year for the Thanksgiving one.

Hi Lisa,

I don't use our home email as my H reviews it almost nightly. This is my only avenue of communication w the bb.

I hope you can post your questions. If not, I understand.

Two excellent resources for you are "The Thyroid Solution"
by Ridha Arem, M.D. and a book by Mary Shonem---the title escapes me--- but JML will probably be able to supply the title.

lily, that's fine. I just was concerned about using this BB for other than DB'ing. I was just curious about some suff having to do with HT. My H was diagnosed with it last April after a blood test when he went to Dr. for a cold/crud that seemed to just not go away. Since then, we have found out that the cause of that crud stuff was a mold growing in the walls of the classroom he was taking his EMT class in. If he hadn't gotten that crud, he wouldn't have been to the Dr. I guess blessing in disguise. He dropped his bomb on me on Feb 21st. as soon as he did that he seemed to go into a depression and MLC. Before that he was fine. weird. He seems to act as if this HT is nothing, because he says he feels just fine and refuses to be sick. (sounds like a man, huh??!!) He is taking the Levoxyl, however. He had another blood test in July and the Dr found that his thyroid hormone was still off and increased the med. He lost weight over the course of that EMT class which went from 9/01-2/02. He was not eating dinner 3 nights a week on purpose. he wanted to lose weight and lost 40#. Then when he was diagnosed with HT, it didn't make sense because usually from what I've heard, people gain weight with that. He is WAY better mentally/emotionally than he was back between 2/21-April. He was a real mess during that time, right after bomb. I know that HT causes depression too, so I didn't know if the HT was causing these MLC symptoms or if it was really MLC or both. How horrible for him. I will be getting him some selenium that you suggested. Is there anything else to look for as far as the progression of this HT or what we have to look forward to? Anymore insight? Thanks, Lisa

Hi, Lisa!

Thank goodness for the 'forced' trips to the doc!

They usually start you out on a low dose then adjust it up.

The dosage depends on your weight. If he gains the weight back his dose will go up .

My doc orders a TSH blood draw every 90 days. He doesn't go by the T3 Uptake or Free T4 or any of those terms---just the TSH =Thyroid Stimulating Hormone.

There are about 117 symptoms of Thyroid Dysfunction. Some of the ones I experienced were extreme weight loss, inablilty to sleep more than 5 hours at night, activity level could be desribed as 'the white tornado', very argumentive and then a sort of crash at which time I was a size 7. I lost all energy and experienced the beginning of a kind of depression (is this all there is? No body needs me?). A bit of a regaining of weight. A tic under my right eye. Headaches that would not end. Menstrual difficulties. Low sex drive (didn't want to be touched). Muscle, joint pains (thought it was just rhumatism setting it). Planar Fascia on right foot. A thingie (cyst) under the skin on my right palm which has a neat name but I forget. Rapid weight gain (wound up at 178lbs) accompanied by the tell-tell 'moon' face Trigger finger (finger would be frozen in bent position). Trouble BIG trouble with digestive system. Paranoia (H S and D all said that "You've changed!!) Sense of doom and anxiety. Brain fog. Powdery dry skin.

Hey---and that was without thinking!

Once I started meds my dry skin went away but I developed a rash (something in the Levoxyl causes some of us to experience this---it usually ends about 2 weeks into the new batch of med). My physical symptoms improved first, then mental, then emotional.

I had a theory that last symtoms displayed were the first ones remedied.

I don't thing Michele will mind if this subject is touched on here.

A lot of marriages don't surrive Thyroid Dysfunction. That T3 is vitally needed by all parts of your body. If you don't have enough of it in your brain, it will affect you.

Sadly, there are those out there who test out 'normal' but still have the symptoms. They have to seek help through the Health Food Stores. I don't know much about that.

I'd suggest you read up on the topic. Your H probably feels better and that's great. You, by gaining the knowledge about this Dis ease can support him.

Lily, yes, if he wasn't having that crud that wouldn't go away (kept coming back) who knows when he would have gone to the Dr. Probably after more terrible symptoms of HT showed up. So do you think it got caught in time or do we still have all that terrible stuff to look forward to that you described? thanks, Lisa

Well, when he goes for T Panels, they'll ask him how he is. The more informative he is the better the chart.

I noticed over on the thyroid bb that their were some people who just wanted more meds and (complained) a lot about their docs and stuff.

I figured that it was up to me to do everything I could to augment the conversion and absortion of the hormone by my body.

I was so frustrated as my brain fog began to clear and I tuned in to the "state of my life". I so wanted to fix everything and make it up to everyone.

What symptoms did your H display.

Again, his weight will determine his dose.

His execrcise and diet and rest will enhance the hormone.

One way to look at us hypo-t types is that we travel w smaller 'energy tanks' than ya'll w healthy thyroids. When we run out of energy we are 'pooped' until the next dose cuts in to the bloodstream.

It truely is health management for life.

There are guys who post on 'about.com thyroid dysfunction. You might glean their posts and learn how it affects a guy's hormonal system.

I know it wrecks havoc w the menstrual cycle.
