What kind of neck surgery did he have? Sweating isn't usually a side-effect of pain meds, UNLESS they are making him really queasy at the same time. Bad pain itself can make you break into a sweat, as can nausea. Some types of nerve damage can cause autonomic dysfunction, including sweating and low blood pressure.

PS - your thyroid numbers look good - but the more important question is, how do you FEEL?

Hey Ellie,

I feel good, so I guess the thyroid stuff is OK

H had a disc removed, bone put in, and a titanium plate with a couple of screws to hold it together. He seems to be doing better today -- he's just doing ibuprofen which seems to be helping perhaps more than the narcotics were. Right now, his throat is still incredibly sore. They had to move him around alot and stretch him out during the surgery, and the tube really left him with a *very* painful throat. (This is a result of that car accident, btw. He had some degeneration but was doing OK, actually getting better, until the accident. But, the speech issue that came with the post-concussive stuff seems to have really cleared up in the last month )

Let's see, re Newtimer... How do you know when a baby is teething?

Best,
Oldtimer

Lots of people assume babies are teething when they start putting everything in their mouths and slobbering on everything, but that's just a normal developmental phase. Usually with teething they may be cranky (not always) and you should be able to feel a tooth bud just under the surface.

Okay, sometimes this dude is just spooky!

I'm currently weighing two different job opportunities. One is more immediate, some positives and some negatives, and the other is slightly chancier but possibly nicer in the long run. I just decided yesterday that there isn't any reason I can't go with the first option for now and keep the door open to choosing the second option a little later. Here's my horoscope for tomorrow:

There is always a risk, when you settle for a substitute, that you close the door to a future opportunity. What if it knocks but you do not open it because you have now made a commitment to that second-best, second-rate, stopgap? Really, though, everything depends on how you fill the empty spaces in your life. If you are clear and honest about temporary arrangements, there is nothing to stop you swopping these for preferable, permanent options when they finally present themselves.

Okay, now I don't believe in astrology for anything other than entertainment value, but sometimes this guy is so on the money!

Ellie,

Is this thread heading for the lock monster?

Have you made a decision?

Hi Ellie,

I have a bright 16-year-old struggling with chemistry too (although her general problem is organization and having a good memory so she has gotten away with not developing great study skills).

Even through my husband and I could help her in chemistry, we went ahead and hired a tutor. We've found it much easier and less stressful to have someone else work with her, and the tutoring does seem to be helping quite a bit.

There is no arriving, ever. It is all a continual becoming.

LOL!!
Picture this, all you fellow baby boomers. My S14 is in his room right now doing his homework. Sandlewood incense wafting from his room. And from his turntable (yes, turntable!) come the sounds of The Association - "Everything Is Love".

It is SO weird to see him recreating MY teen years!!!! I'm having flashbacks!

Was gone to a family wedding this weekend, no time to post right now but just wanted to put this in as a reminder to myself:

Love is patient, Love is kind,
It does not envy, it does not boast,
It is not proud, It is not rude,
It is not self-seeking,
It is not easily angered,
It keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil,
but rejoices with the truth.

Love always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.

Love bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends.

Thanks, Ellie. A nice, yet bittersweet, reminder.
