Nicola - I can so relate to your brother's gf. I wonder how many poor undiagnosed/misdiagnosed/undertreated thyroid patients are out there? I'm trying to figure out how to go navk to work in a practice setting where I could devote myself to these patients.

SP1 - Tips for your cousin:
- yes, she will likely be hypothyroid after. They use higher doses to treat cancer than they do Graves dz.
- the goal after treatment with cancer patients is to keep any remaining thyroid tissue suppressed by giving them high doses of thyroid hormone. This should also prevent the weight gain that Graves patients commonly get after RAI.
- she should ask for blood tests to check her levels whenever she feels bad after the RAI - don't wait 6 weeks if she feels crummy at 4 weeks, for instance. Those first few months after RAI can be rocky.
- there's a good discussion board on thyroid diseases at healthboards.com and a fair number of thyroid cancer patients there.

Hi Ellie - Hope you had a great weekend

Thank you so much for the info/tips for my cousin. She's going to her Endo Dr. today and may have to head to her regular Dr. after having a large swollen lymph gland or something? suddenly appear on her neck. I hope this doesn't delay her surgery. I'll definitely relay your info to her and the website sounds really good too.

Thanks again!
SP

Anybody else seen this stupid car commercial - my H pointed it out to me:
Shows a family with kids on a weekend trip with their SUV or minivan or whatever it is - mom, dad, two kids, having agreat time. Then they drive home, dad gets out of the car, kids give him a big hug, then kids get back in the car and dad says to mom (who's driving) "thanks for inviting me"??????

Of course, my response is that this is a divorced or separated couple "playing family" for the kids. Whatever - it's painful to watch and I can't imagine how the ad department thought this would sell cars???????????

I havent seen that. sounds incredibly....not sure what to say...ignorant? really stinks, IMHO. What is the message supposed to be with that????
In fact, it stinks so much, I think we all oughta call the company and complain. If I see it, I think I may. Somedays I just feel p---y enough about all this to point out the facts to people who are so blase about it all.
Theres my rant for the morning!

been around awhile!

Ellie,

I watched a "Jimmy Neutron" movie with the kids on Saturday night, and that's the most tv I've watched probably since the Super Bowl. But do you remember what car company it was? Sometimes companies put their commercials on the web.

I'd be willing to write to them about it, if I saw it.

Thanks,

Joe

It's a Ford Freestyle ad - here's an article about it:

Ellie,

I have seen the ad. My first reaction was that D is so common now that the powers that be want to integrate it into every facet of our lives. A pretty lame attempt to be politically correct, IMHO.

Oh, and the whole dopemine thing....I think it gives new meaning to the term "crack ho"

Sorry, just gearing up for the weekend. Have a great one!

Floyd!!!!! You brightened my day!!! I sent you an email.
(Most of you are too "young" here to remember, but Floyd was famous for his thong back in the day ).
