My H. has done the lying for no apparent reason thing too. I’ve spent far too much time trying to make sense out of some of his mistruths that I’ve discovered. Sometimes I can make a logical conclusion, other times not. We (you and I) may never really get to the bottom of it. All I can say is they must have their own reasons for lying to us; probably partly to protect us from some source of hurt, and partly to protect themselves from looking guilty and heinous.
Most of us really marry only once. First love endures, even unto our dying day. And we never really divorce.
