Not sure how old you are...but when I was growing up one of my favorite cartoons was Pepe Le Pew...the skunk who fell in love with Penelope the cat...if you remember this cartoon at all you will remember that Pepe would go to the ends of the earth to prove his love for Penelope and whenever he would get her in his arms, finally...what did she do...she did everything she could to wiggle out of his arms...she was suffocated. She couldn't wait to get away from him...I do believe there was one episode were Pepe played hard to get and Penelope did come closer until he got too close again for her comfort level.
That is my best analogy of a WAS and what they are thinking...just call me Penelope...damn...I keep forgetting to change my Screen Name...
