they started me on thyroid when my numbers were high. Told me it was to treat the goiter. first dosage number came back low, but goiter growing, HMMMMM, second test due to a ER visit colapsing at the top of the stairs and my H overreacting. Numbers high, recheck by Dr. numbers high, lower dosage, recheck numbers good.
It was at the ER that I was told that the purpose of the thyroid replacement meds was to shut my thyroid down and that once that happened that I would need to take the meds forever. My Dr. never bothered to mention that to me.

I assume you mean your TSH was high, not your T4? (TSH is a measure of the signal from the pituitary to the thyroid, telling it to make more thyroid hormone. Usually, TSH goes up in response to a low T4 (low circulating thyroid hormone).

Being on thyroid suppression for a goiter does not necessarily mean you will have to be on it forever. However, the goiter may grow if you go off. If your thyroid was low to begin with, and that was the cause of the goiter, then you might have to stay on thyroid simply because your thyroid may not recover normal function due to whatever underlying process was making it low in the first place. There are some other inherited defects of thyroid hormone processing that can lead to goiter, and with your dad's history, it is possible you have something like that.

I honestly don't remember which, seems like my T4 was normal. I just remember the Dr. continually looking at reports and saying Hmmm I don't understand that.
He was not much of a bedside kinda guy. I do know that his daughter lives in CA and has twins that were born premature and turn 3 this month.

big lump in my throat

its a growth and if I were a guy you would just accept it as an adams apple.
But heck, you can see about 75% of the way around my collar bone, so it doesn't stick out on me any more than anything else.

Hi Ellie - Pardon my intrusion... I was just wondering about vitamins. I don't know if I am taking too many or not:
Morning - multi, calcium, St. John's wort
Lunch - St. John's wort
Dinner - calcium, vit c, B6 100mg (for PMS), 1 fish oil, St. John's wort, 1 acidophillus (utis)
Do you think the B6 100mg is ok? My counselor had mentioned B6 for pms but did not know much about doses.

Thanks for looking at this...now back to the "Tale of the Scale"

Sounds okay. 100 mg of B6 is okay, I would not go higher because there are rare reports of neuropathy with high doses of B6.

If you tend to get a lot of cramps or physical symptoms with your period, there are some good studies on taking vitamin E 200-400 mg a day for the last half of your cycle - it really seemed to help my daughter.

Thanks, Ellie! I appreciate your response.

I agree with Livnlearn about you somehow utilizing your skills from home on a medical BB or something

Have a great day

One of the ugly things in Piecing is when you stumble across those landmines - the remnants of the affair that your spouse leaves around the house, that you stumble on unwittingly. Like landmines, I guess it is just too difficult for them to remember where they all are and remove them? And like landmines, they can linger for years after the war.

Yesterday I found another one.

Mind you, it's been THREE YEARS since H's crisis. I wonder when I'll ever feel completely "safe" from the landmines in my own home?

Yesterday I was searching in our music cabinet for an instruction booklet for a recording machine we own. I found a notebook and opened it - to a song H apparently wrote about OW after the breakup. ("Once my every heartbeat was for you, now you've shown your true colors" - pathetic crap, really).

Now H and I are doing really well, but finding this old garbage still makes me nauseated. Maybe I should have just quietly thrown it away, but I made H come over and told him he needed to get this out of my house NOW!

I'm sure he'd long since forgotten he'd even written it. I just wish he'd remember where he's left all this stuff so I don't ever have to find any of it again!!!

Ellie,

Since you've recorded your reactions about the discovery, please do tell how H feels about these things? Remorse, guilt or plain stupid!? I often wonder how these spouses feel about these things after they've reconciled with the LBS.
