I don't watch a lot of movies but will have to be more aware and look for the reference "the caterpillar" drive.
I like many science fiction movies untill I learn some of the scenes are so off base from the laws of physics.
Star Wars was good, but turns in space that don't involve gravity and mass and doppler effect sounds? Come on. It did make the movie more exciting.
2001, A Space Odyssey was not as exciting but the EVA activities were most likely more realistic.
Quote: --"Engage caterpillar and secure main engines!" Of course, there are also times when it's necessary to uncrank the main engines and steam "all ahead full"...and the hallmark of a good and tactically-astute skipper is to know when each is appropriate.
I KWUM. When to with hold and when to ask and when to take and when to give?? To be or not to be is easier.
