I think you are putting to much into what style of lingerie he bought you. And it will end up being a huge bag of resentment. He did by you lingerie. It was his first time of doing it correct? He stepped out of his comfort zone to do so correct? He let you know he was looking forward to this weekends coming event by doing so correct? So go with that. Take your 40+ year sensuality and turned them puppy's into something that will make him a lion. You don't have to doon pig tails and bobby socks to go along with them. Spice it up.I know you can do it.
Then in a week or two buy him a gift. A piece of lingerie that is more to your liking something sexy but not over the top add some lotions and give it to him prior to a scheduled together day. With a note like " Won't I look hot in this for you Saturday night you will just want to rub me all over".
Make it a game one in which you teach him what it is you like and see if he likes it to (without discounting what he was trying to do for you).
