I compared OS to Religious, cultural, societal, environmental, behaiviors. they all reside in our neo cortex. they are changeable.
For example there exists a group in the amazon, a tribe, that engages in both polyandry and polygamy. They dont have a murder rate. Why dont they feel the jealousy and anger that overcomes us from this? Why do americans typical have such a large 'personal zone' area around them that they are comfortable with others being in, compared to say Indonesians?
Do you know Jungianism? I am going to use it for your question about kids being born this way. I wonder what age you speak of though. 3 years old is already very environmentally conditioned. Things like laughter are learned responses, humans dont do it if they are never taught it. Some Native american tribes, conditioned their children to not cry, before 6 months if I remember correctly.
Back to 'born that way' and Jungianism. He seperated people in to 4 core personality types, our 'job' is to work on the 3 that we are not. I am not naturally extroverted, outgoing, life of party. It taxes me not refreshes me. But I work at it and other things because I am not naturally that way, I would be imbalanced to wallow in my comfortableness of 'being me' not becoming a 'complete' person. Yes genetics plays a part in who we are, our emotional tendancies, and personality. I think as sentient creatures its our job to own our behaiviors and our environment as best we can. What we do makes us who we are. Thoughts and intentions are not decernable. Extreme example, a child molester may wish to not be one, but his actions make him one.
Its an on going struggle.

I look at your 'male/female' insert and it makes me think about how often women say 'where are all the men.' Our society protrays men as being one thing and conditions them to being another. women react with seeming attraction to one thing while we are told that it is wrong and to behave another way. I completely understand TSinA's frustration and anger at this, and I think you have a bit of it too. your OS is trying to override your EEPROM-- getting bad results and it causes a crash. In real terms your neo cortex is trying to dictate to your limbic system and it not only cant, it creates huge amounts of stress.
Which is a different kind of war altogether.
