Re the falling asleep lately-- It's almost as if during the time that you were pulling away, he went into crisis mode and had to kick into overdrive to make contact with you. When he spotted his "old honey" back, he could come down from Red Alert to Green and exhaustion took over. Sort of like after putting out an all-night fire, I'll bet firefighters just go back to the station and crash, being mentally, emotionally, and physically worn out.
