We had another pre-Stage I encounter last night...I didn't have to prompt my wife; I just followed her into the bedroom, she checked for the cats and closed the door after us, and got up onto the bed. She actually said it helped her feel better, being in a nice, quiet place and feeling that someone really loved her. She also (after we got up) commented, "The cats are going to have to learn that, when we close the door like that, they're not being punished or anything." I suggested just removing pajama tops as an intermediate step; she made no comment.
