My W is on 1500mg of Depakote. We both think it contributes to both her feeling tired a lot. She sleeps on average 8-9 hours a day, and in the weekend she often sleeps for 12 hours. Also, I do think it contributes to her LD as well.
However, she isn't very eager to 'tamper' with her medication as she calls it herself, but she does think it is a problem. Her treating psuchiatrist isn't much of a help tho. Earlier we talked about it with him, and he suggested switching to 2 tablets in the morning and 4 at night instead of 3-3. My W mentioned it again the last time, and he simply said "try switching to 1-5". I know this is how the psychiatric world operates: Just throw random stuff against the wall and see what sticks.... :\
Now for one, I think this isn't a good way of dealing with it. to me personally, I'd say my W is oversedated on the Depakote. They say each person has a personal optimum level which is between where it starts being effective, and where siginifant side effects begin. I do think she's on the wrong end of the scale, but as he Md doesn't feel trying a lower dose (say 5 instead of 6 pills) makes sense, she doesn't want to 'tamper' with the dose as well. Now, I am a person of logic, she is not, and I don't want to 'push' her into trying a lower dose, but I do think Depakote is pretty much responsible for both her feeling tired, sluggish and lack of SD.
