I had a very strange jelly encounter a few weeks ago. I was loading groceries into my trunk in a pretty empty parking lot quite early in the morning. A van drove up beside me and the driver rolled down his window and said "I have something you might want.". He then held up a jar of jelly in his hand. It looked kind of sticky and gross. He said "My wife and I make homemade jelly and we sell it. Would you like to buy some?". The combination of the kind of creepy "stranger with candy in a van" sales approach and the unsanitary appearance of the jar was not tempting.

Scott, My H started a new job on the 5th. He has other interviews lined up because this new place is a dump, of the finest kind.
He now has this bright idea (which is not like my straight-as-an-arrow H) to buy the dental and vision insurance, get our teeth and eyes worked on, then he will quit the job and we'll have only paid in 60 bucks or whatever. This doesn't sound right to me.
In addition to that, I keep reading (on endometriosis boards) that insurance companies don't want to pay for the procedures, etc. What's up with that?! These people keep saying, Make SURE your insurance will pay for it...
Yikes. That is scaring me.
Well, any info you can give me, I'd appreciate. Shoot I don't even remember the original topic for this thread anymore. It's sortof an anger management-spackle tool-jelly making-insurance question free for all.
Good luck in the jelly fair quest. I am trying again to get a photo into the State Fair art show here. I was a county 4H grand champion my senior year in high school and won a state fair trip. Projects like that can be fun.
Anyway on the insurance. First, he needs to see what the probationary/waiting period is at the new company on getting health insurance benefits. It varies from company to company. Generally once you qualify for the plan coverage kicks in after the probationary period. It depends on the plan as to how long the coverage goes after he quits the job too. Minnesota has a law that coverage has to go to the end of the month, however Wisconsin does not. If the employee then leaves he can opt for COBRA, which is where you guys pay the company for coverage. COBRA effects employers with 20 or more employees.
Second, as far as pre-existing conditions, i.e. your endometriosis, as long as you guys have less than a 63 day break in coverage you should be ok on that. Although, if his new company has a self insured plan, there may be a waiting period for some time. The documents he gets regarding the health plan should have that spelled out. With endometiosis the problems with coverage are that it is usually being treated related to infertility coverage and most health plans have limitations on infertility coverage. The best thing to do here is call the insurance company and ask how surgery for endometriosis is covered. Infertility treatment is expensive, which I think you have some experience with, and both insurers and employers are looking at controlling expenses. You shouldn't have a problem as I would hope the dr you see doesn't submit the claim as an infertility claim, although it wouldn't hurt to mention that at the dr's office so they don't code it wrong.
Third, As far as vision and dental, that depends on how company structures it's benefits. My company includes vision as part of the main health plan, so you guys will need to look over the options. Dental is also a separate option here as well, so that depends on the employer.
Ok, I think that those are the basics. Let me know if you need more info, or if I hopelessly confused you and you need clarification. Health insurance can get complicated.
Scott -Who is still in a nasty heat wave here in Mn.
"Satisfaction is not guaranteed." Rule #19 Ferengi "Rules of Acquistition"
Scott, Thanks for the info. That was very helpful. I think the biggest piece of pertinent info is to not let our coverage lapse for more than 63 days (where do they get these whacked out numbers??) so that it is not considered a pre-existing condition. Good to know.
Lou, I saw the urologist this morning and he is considering doing the type of treatment where you take an antibiotic pill every time you have sex, to prevent the UTI. You might want to haul BB to the doc and see if this is something she'd be interested in, since she's not too hip on using the bathroom before and after. He did do an exam (lord, how I'm sick of being in stirrups) and said that everything was in its place, despite my claim of my large 2nd baby "ruining" me, lol. I swear I've never been the same after her birth and this last baby just put the nail in that coffin. He was young and cute and ran his hands lightly over my abdomen looking at the appendectomy scar. Not that I LIKED it or anything, it was PURELY medicinal. Or doctoral. Or something like that.
RE HP where you take an antibiotic pill every time you have sex, to prevent the UTI. You might want to haul BB to the doc and see if this is something she'd be interested in We talked about that some. Did you know you can get test strips to determine if you actually have a UTI and not something that feels like a UTI?
BB does not want to become immune to the super bugs which is a down side of taking too many antibiotics. Right now I think the washing before and after should help lots. BB does pee after (not fast or happy) sex. I say if we keep doing what we did last time, the UTI's should be 80% reduced. But what do I know.
If the UTI's come back then I will ask for antibotics for each sexual encounter befoe a UTI shows up.
LOL He was young and cute and ran his hands lightly over my abdomen looking at the appendectomy scar. Not that I LIKED it or anything, it was PURELY medicinal I had something like that happen to me one time. This female doc (good looking and "very personable") did a prostate exam. I did not know what to say so just made some remark like "its still there, is it". It was one of those frustrating touches. I almost was going to tell her she did not have t do that part of the annual physical but thought she chose her profession and it's "medical".
It used to be guys under 40 won't let a male doc do a prostate exam. They don't like anyone touching their butt let alone another guy. Girl friend/wife, maybe.
I forgot agout the younger generation were anal activities are on the table and OK. Lot different than my sheltered past were oral was only for sluts/cunts and whoering-around-guys.
(lord, how I'm sick of being in stirrups BB said when she had our kids I would not make a good PG woman because of the stirrup times. Back then almost no one touched me except for BB. I like to be touched all over from her.
You said something about getting your medical records from the doc. Most will make copies for your new doc. but wont give you the origionals. They clain they own the records. At least that is what happen to me.
Like most people I went along with the doc's plan but when I went to this other doc, he set me straight. He said to insist on getting copies of what I wanted. He even gave my MRI films to keep. I showed the films to other docs (insurance company review)and they could not believe I had them in my posession. Some wanted to return them to my origional doc but I said No, I was in charge of them. It's not like I was going to alter them so did not see the need for the docs to control their movements or storage.
Tooo many people let the doc make all of the decisions and too many people play along with what doc-god said. I am not saying to buck the system at the least slight you feel, but to carry out what you think is best for you.
I too am very resistant to taking antibiotics 3-4 times per week. I don't like putting any kind of drug in my body, to tell ya the truth.
So that is not a therapy I'm keen on, but we'll see what happens.
OH and I laughed at the image of you in stirrups. (see I have mental pictures of all the people on this bb, who knows if I'm accurate or not) MrH would freak if he was ever attached to stirrups. He doesn't even like to change in front of me, for petes sakes. This doc had a nice light touch. I'm sure he doesn't touch as many female abdomens as an OB does so the OB felt "rougher" or more clinical somehow.
I gotta say you are definitely more HD than me if you can feel horny in the stirrups. I wonder if sex sometimes feels like the stirrups to LDW? There should be a word that describes the sexual arousal brain haze that makes activities or body parts that might be unappealing in some other context seem really appealing once that switch is flipped. For instance, men will risk death by cancer in order to avoid regular prostate exams yet the "Bend Over Boyfriend" dvd is one of the top selling products on the Good Vibrations website.

RE JJMM For instance, men will risk death by cancer in order to avoid regular prostate exams JJ, most reluctant guys eventually get prostate exams. It may take a few years and he might have to hear a few war stories about some guys prostate cancer.
If you have been healthy as a horse for 45 years, suddenly getting a more through exam seems creepy. Same goes for a Colonoscopy. It takes a while to get used to the idea.
