I agree with Ellie. You've spent so much effort on this, why not just find out more info on the medical side. I'm sure the pills are putting him to sleep. Unfortunately, he'd prefer to do that than face reality for some reason.
Also, If you think he may be a narcissist then try giving him admiration, admiration and admiration. See what happens.
