H will turn 56 in just a couple of days. His memory started getting sluggish about 6 yrs ago after a much longer than anticipated gallbladder surgery was performed. Within 6 months of the surgery he started showing signs of impaired memory and over time it's gotten alot worse. The surgery was only supposed to take about 2 to 2-1/2 hours but ran for almost 5-1/2 hours. A heart specialist I was working for at the time said that it's very common for persons after having undergone such extended surgeries to experience memory difficulties that can worsen over time. It's likely his brain received insufficient oxygen at points or some point throughout the surgery...just one of the nasty little side effects not always mentioned. I've noticed, as well as H himself that his memory has become increasingly worse since. I remember his elderly mother not being too swift in the memory department either, so it could be hereditary to some degree as well. But the surgery really brought it on.
Sometimes I joke to him that he's going to forget he's married and has a wife and will forget to come home.
Just a question please, do I now have 2 different threads or is it just my imagination? I thought you already started one with the first posting and now there's this one? Just checking.
