Lorry and truck are both used in the UK. Lorry is generally bigger than a truck, though.
A truck is usually bigger than a mini van but smaller than freight vehicles. I suppose it was the size of a mini van with a skip on the back of it.
I used to date someone (for 5 months, ugh!) who was a long distance freight driver and if people asked me what he did for a living I would say he was a 'truckie'
I left him though, because he treated me MUCH worse than H and I was still in love with H so it was a re-bound thing.
