Don't get hung up on that. The kid deserves to know where she came from. If birth mother doesn't want to maintain contact, that's her choice. Make sure your daughter understands that's a possibility. Even if your daughter decides not to pursue this now, please write down ALL the info you have so that she will have it as a resource in the future if she wants it.
I strongly urge anyone who has adopted, or is considering it, to talk to adoptees who DO search for their birth parents. There's a lot more to think about than the social workers will tell you.
