I don't think anyone should have unconditional love for their spouse. If your spouse treats you badly year after year, love will surely die. It must. I remember in one of the Schnarch books a client said, "I'm asking myself why I want to ML so much to someone who doesn't want to ML to me."

I meant that she is looking for that from HD (love me even though I can't be sexual with you).

HD had a great response... he brought to the picture the concept of "marital love" whcih has conditions. The Dog did good.

There's a good quote in the Alanon literature that says something like "when you least deserve love is when you need it the most." I might amend that to read "when you FEEL the least deserving of love is when you need it the most."
