This post was a really interesting insight into the mind of Mrs. HD. One of my sisters is an atheist. She thinks religion has done more harm than good in the history of humanity due to events such as the Crusades, witch burning, censorship, puritanical repression of the arts etc.. She realizes that she is in a very small minority with her point of view, but she defends it all the more stridently for that reason.
Perhaps, your W has become firmly entrenched in her anti-sex point of view in part because she knows it is a minority viewpoint. This allows her to feel oppressed by the sex loving majority and therefore in some way superior to them. This also allows her to take herself out of the realm of sexual competition. She doesn't have to worry about looking good in a teddy for the same reason my sister doesn't have to worry about taking the Lord's name in vain.
