I will tell you that, in the past, I would have listened to W's explanation of why this advertisement was offensive, and I would have rallied behind her. This time, I didn't. I told her, "I understand why YOU think it's offensive, but I don't agree with you." I stuck to my guns, much to her frustration.

I think this is the cool thing, HD, that you feel you can express your POV...very differentiated stuff.

And thanks for the HP diversion.

Does she feel the need to constantly compete with men?

I think it's more of a "proving" of herself. Her dad was very critical of her, and she constantly tried to prove herself to him. I think she's basically done trying to do that for him, but does it elsewhere.

I agree that she needs to pick her battles better. Once again, I have to say, this was not a FIGHT we had, just a debate.

Man, can you sense tension and frustration or what with her???

I wish this was easy to fix for you HD, like say, give her a silver "bullet" and an 18 pack of AA batteries and tell her to check in with you next week? I know I'd be one happy camper...

She wears me out just reading your posts!

GEL

My H loved Steel Magnolias, and Beaches. The last few times we have rented movies at the local rent place, he always picks out sci-fi related flicks and I pick out what looks good. Well, he has complained that the ones he has picked out sucked, lol, while the ones I picked out he sat and watched and even enjoyed. Then again he doesn't really watch much sports either.

In my capacity as SSM physician, it is obvious that your H has a culturally induced testosterone deficiency.

My prescription: On Saturday afternoon, sit him down in front of the TV for 6 hours of college football. While he is watching, go out and rent a martial arts movie, preferably with Jet Li rather than Jackie Chan, and "Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon", as good as it is, is not a good choice due to an excess of strong female characters.

Once he is done with all of this macho entertainment, he will be ripping your bodice by 9PM.

Dr. Mechanic

P.S. I would never try this myself, because I have no shortage of testosterone. If I did this, I would be ripping someone's head off by 9PM .

In all seriousness, on a normal day, is she a negative person? Is she spontaneous at all?

I know from reading on the BB we all tend to make judgments and conclusions about people only knowing a tenth of the story...

What is she like when she's "just being"?

She can be pretty negative. If you are familiar with my history, you know that she does not particularly like it here in KC. She can also be very positive, as when she gets a good result for one of her clients, when she is playing with our DD3, when she is in a good mood.
She can be spontaneous, but only when it's carefully planned.
Really, she is a good person. She just has a few, notable, quirks.
