Yeah, s18 has an SAT score of 1590 out of 1600, and numerous AP courses - he and his friends are mostly interested in intellectual play (like D and D, complex role-playing video games, writing fan-fictions, etc.) Most of his friends are brilliant kids headed to top-notch colleges. Few of them date, even fewer seriously - I think the academic pressure on them at their school is too intense. S18 is really young for his age in a lot of social respects, but I don't mind him being a late bloomer. Actually, his friends remind me a lot of my friends in high school - we used to have a blast together playing games, lots of verbal wordplay, never felt the need for drugs or other distractions.
I am quite sure I won't be able to say the same about D14 and S13's friends as they grow up, though - it will be tougher with them. But on the other hand, they will not have the same maturity issues S18 has. Every kid has different strengths and weaknesses.
100 middle schoolers? God bless you! As a 7th grade english teacher with 120 students, I know what you are in for. Actually I am lucky, my students are great and they are still such little kids even though they desperately want to be grown ups.
OMG, Chilly, how are you girlfriend??????? I missed you!
Yes, I figure we had at least 70 - 80 kids show up for S13's party. It was kind of like a college party - you know, the standing-room-only kind? But yes, they are still at that sweet stage of trying to be grown up but really still being kids.
Last night, on the other hand, S18 had his party, very subdued, just about 7 or 8 friends, they played video games all evening - several of his friends couldn't make it because of holiday obligations, thisis always a problem with these December birthdays - but I think he had fun.
I am doing well....very busy, but things are going along pretty well. My little guy is amazing...2 1/2...talks a mile a minute and is a super sports nut...football, basketball, hockey, golf, baseball...you name it! He is already skating and is excited to get hockey skates!
No snow here yet. I'm actually trying to make plans to do some ice climbing (have never done it) and thinking about some mountaineering. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a guy with similar interests! :-P
