Quote: Some people are so negative and fussbudget-y that even the mere thought of the unknown (sending kids to a different place) sends him into a tizzy.
Here is my theory:
Fussy, high anxiety people may be prone to LD. I can think of a lot of connections here: inability to relax, inability to be in the moment, inability to turn off your mind and feel your body, fatigue, non-specific fear and loathing.
My W & I don't go on dates. She doesn't trust anyone else with the kids. Anytime she gets sick, she worries that it is something deadly, then the fear makes her sicker. She worries about D12's school work way more than D12 does. When she gets worked up she can't stay asleep. She wakes up at 3AM with her mind racing...about D12's social studies project!
Your husband probably isn't this bad as my wife. But your use of the term "fuss-budgety" was a give away for me. Mojo, I'm sure, can relate.
I bet if you do actually go on your date that he will be worrying about the kids. Could you send him over to my place so I can go on a date with my wife?
