You are such an inspiration.. you handled that perfectly... I hope eventually you rub off on me.. lol Can i ask where you get your Cainercast from?? They sound so insightful! Big hugs to you, and thanks for visiting my thread.. Because of people like you I really feel hopeful that I can do this! Hugs
Relax, woman! It's great that you listen to the feedback you get from others. I know you're paying attention...
But don't you think that segregating perceived American values vs. those perceived to exist in the international community isn't a touch, well, bigoted? Not to mention out of touch? And labeling?
We're all part of the human race. And I found the letter intriguing. I'm also a practicing Roman Catholic who possesses views of more ethereal spirituality. I think that many (if not most) of us have unique beliefs that don't fit in the proverbial box.
And labeling people so that the Dx fits neatly isn't just assuming: it's wrong.
That, Pen, is your neighbor's opinion. I don't share it. But let's see what everyone else has to say. Personally, I thought it was thought provoking and a good way to approach the problem from a different perspective.
And most of us who are religious believe in a struggle of good vs. evil. Why not present the other side?
You have GOT to take it easy on the housework, Pen! I swear to you that it's addling your brain...
Betsey
"There are only 2 ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
Now that I think about it, I'm quite certain you're right - housework is simply BAD for me. Now, if only I could find someone else to do it ..... *thoughtful expression*
Thanks for the encouragement, and I'll try to keep in mind that while our cultures may be different, no culture is a homogenous mass, and that people as individuals differ much more within a culture than without. I'm usually much better at remembering this - yep, MUST be all that housework addling my brain! *g* It's just that I know religion can be a touchy subject, and I truely didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Anyways, thanks for the boost, and good luck with turning up the proverbial heat. Yes, I do think you can take it.
I thought your post was brilliant...but didn't want to just be an "arfer" buy posting that to you. I think it also belongs in the "tips to newcomers to piecing" thread.

Relax. Appreciate. Be calm. Laugh. Enjoy. Be secure. Be loving. Be loved. Don't personalize. Don't ASSume. Accept. Be grateful.
We can ARF! Anything that gives us pause to think is arf-worthy....
What isn't arfworthy is pretending that something doesn't exist. For example (thanks you-know-who), let's say I have a problem teasing other people. Well, it's actually true. I can say I'm joking, but my past is littered with the bodies who have endured the jokes made at their expense and mine.
Where is the line crossed between funny and serious?
That being said, let's say for the sake of argument that all of you noticed this about me, felt it was a problem but didn't feel obligated to point this out to me? And when I posted a classic example of the problem, everyone sidestepped the issue to focus on a more positive thought?
I think THAT would be arfing...
Sorry for my seriousness today, folks. I must be ovulating or something...
Pen, if I had any difficulty with the controversy, I'd tell you. Until then, keep provoking me and the rest of us with what you've read. If you've found it interesting and helpful, I'm sure we can all benefit from it.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled program already in progress....
"There are only 2 ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
i have to butt in here about your post - i feel as underdog did (don't i always tho? ) that this was just your NEIGHBOR'S opinion
opinions are like, oh well you know the saying...
anyhoo - this is a classic example of why the master of illustrations (for those of us who are relgious based on christianity) USED illustrations in almost all of his sermons
illustrations are UNDERSTOOD by almost EVERYONE
this letter hit home to so many of us because we all understood it on a level that we could all comprehend. we then could take this illustration and apply the parts that need to be applied to the specific needs we have at a specific time
i think your apology is appreciated - but for me it wasn't necessary - this letter you wrote has had me thinking since i read it
for me - it was divine intervention
just to give you a little insight...i joined a gym!!!

I like arfing - as long as I know that you'll also speak up if I step out of line. Betsey's analogy with regards to the jokes is a good one, since my own pathway is also lined with the corpses of victims of my teasings. It took me a while to learn that my acerbic wit could at times seem not only not witty, but downright hurtful to others. So I try to be more careful, sometimes with more, sometimes with less success.
I'll repost the post to the "Advice to Newcomers" thread - and thanks again.
Really? Your neighbor was offended? Sorry I don't see that. You said she is somwhat of a surragate mother image to you? I'll assume she is older and perhaps practices a faith more strict than others. Frankly, I'm not offended. It was a great letter and rather timely for me.
When you can't make a decision because you are torn between your heart and your head, listen to the half with the brain.

Kewlkitti,
There’s nothing you could have said that would have made me happier – GO YOU, GIRL! It’s one of the best-kept secrets of the medical world that regular exercise is a key contributor to a happy, healthy and relaxed sense of well-being. As far as feeling upbeat and optimistic goes, exercise has been proven to be on par with having a stable circle of friends, and even a regular sex life – not that the last two are not good things to have. And that’s just for starters. If we exercise regularly, and our body image improves along with our sense of well-being, the sky’s the limit for a woman’s PMA. Did I mention GO YOU???
I’m also someone who finds imagery, illustrations, and metaphors helpful, so I’m glad my “fiendish” piece spoke to you. The wonderful thing about this board is how we can all learn from each other!
