I let this one sit for a while but I just had to respond. First, no one said anything about "rights" to choose names or changing the status of our "free country".
Second, it's great to share your opinion about what the question should or should not have been, but why not allow others to pose questions or opinions as they see fit?
Pam's original "topic of the day" was "what is it about screen names?" - it was a about her opinion that she didn't want her name to reflect all of her 'being' in a negative way. She simply kicked off a topic with that thought.
While I do find it interesting to hear why we picked our names, I think it's more interesting to think about how we project ourselves to the world (which includes our spouses) by our actions (including picking nicknames, how we dress, what we do, how we COMMUNICATE to others, etc.).
