I am feeling so international tonight! I was listening to a song on the Rain (비 ) K-pop CD I have which has several singers on this one song, Come Over. There’s a rap section at 60 seconds in, and the first time I heard it. I thought it was in Thai. But the words were Korean. I looked it up today, and that rapper is a Korean kid raised in Thailand! So he DID have a Thai accent!
(I don’t speak Thai but did visit Thailand once 20 years ago).
I’m finding this process very similar to when I first played the drums. Drum charts were seldom available for the songs I wanted to play, so I would have to listen closely to pick out the drum parts. At first I struggled to differentiate which drums were being hit when: “was that the snare, or the floor tom?” Eventually, after a lot of practice , my ears tuned in and I could hear the difference.
Now I’m starting to hear the sounds of the Korean words more clearly, and even able to pick out that Thai accent! I’m having so much fun with this!
Back to work this week, and rolling along. Still seriously behind on Xmas shopping but I will get there.
Otherwise still having fun with my new Korean hobby, learning more words, singing along to some kpop CDs (one of my Henry Lau CDs actually has a hidden track at the end which is an instrumental version of one song, so I can karaoke along to that).
Need to get back to drumming, and found a drum cover video for the song Switch to Me by Rain and JYP, very challenging but seems like a good challenge to take on.
Overall, I'm feeling good, and enjoying taking on these new physical and mental challenges. Not sure if I have room in my life for a boyfriend right now anyway. Spa Guy is still texting me, but never responded when I suggested a few weeks ago that maybe I could come out there midweek after Xmas when hotel rooms are cheap and visit him, so I'm just gonna do my thing and wait for him to express more interest in seeing me. Instead, I'm going to spend my week off between Xmas and New Year's putting my house in order, with a day trip to a local hot springs spa with my old DB buddy Survival Goddess who now lives near me.
