On the flooding basement issue, I think you're a ways drive from your cabin so not sure how helpful this will be, but I have a little wifi water detector in my basement that will set off a notification on my phone if it gets wet. It plugs into an outlet, connects to wifi, and then has a little sensor you place where water comes in. It has been so helpful for me because I used to freak out every time it rained hard and race home from work to see if it was flooding in the basement... now I can just wait for my phone to tell me no, it really does help with the anxiety. It doesn't need to restart after a power outage either.
