Have you read "The Corrections" by Franzen? For some reason your situation reminds me a lot of the situation of one of the main characters in this novel. It won the National Book Award in 2001 and is chock full of HD and LD characters.
As long as I've gotten off topic like this, has anyone read "Choke" by Palahniuk, "Talk Dirty to Me" by Sallie Tisdale or "The Elementary Particles" by Houellebecq? If so, what did you think about the issues they raised about being HD or LD?
