Ugh.....I made a big typo when I wrote, " The H does need to say something that sounds as if he is agreeing". It should have been, "The H does not need to say something that sounds as if he is agreeing".
It is not about what you feel should work in your M. It is about doing the work that gets the right results. Do what works!
