Thanks guys
S17 is fine. After a long day waiting for an OR slot, they finally took his appendix out around 7 P.M. - the actual surgery took no time at all (they do it laparascopically these days) and he was home in his own bed before 11 P.M. !

S17 was a trooper - he's usually my wimpy one, but he was very brave all day. He did have a moment before he went in to surgery though when he wanted to tell me who to give all his video games and anime to if he died.

Today he's eating jello and able to get up on his own. He's a little sore but really not too bad.

He really had a completely textbook case. When he woke up yesterday morning, I noticed he was belching a lot. I asked him if he was okay, and he said his stomach hurt a little, and pointed to the area around his belly button. (For some reason, people with appendicitis often first "feel" the pain there, even though they are tender to touch over the appendix in the right lower quadrant). Sure enough, I laid him down and mashed on his belly, and he winced when I got to the right lower quadrant, right ove McBurney's point (about two-thirds of the way up a line drawn from the hip bone to the belly button). I knew that second that he had appendicitis (I used to work in urgent care, where I would see two or three cases of early appendicitis every month).

What a surreal way to start your day! I'm just glad he didn't do this while we were on vacation - we're supposed to leave on Wednesday.
