About not affording the vacations, I grew up in southeast Asia and had conservative hard working parents. Although our vacations were never fancy the memories I have are of simpler and happy times in the ordinary places my parents could take us to. It is not the destination it is what you do with the time that counts for the children. Plan whatever outing you can well, put your heart into it, it will help kids make memories that will last a life time.
