I have moments when I look back and say "OMG was that fake too??! What was I thinking???!"
Took me a few years after ex left to get a really clear picture. And to realize all the little inconsistencies that I just blew right by that I now see were probably big lies.
(Like that time he told me that story about a hooker showing up by mistake at his hotel room while on a business trip and how he innocently let her in to use the phone - pretty sure now he was secretly trying to "tell" me he had sex with her.)
(Or that time a surfing buddy blew up at him because he thought he had flirted with his wife - I believed my ex's explanation at the time. After all, he was very extroverted and charming, I could see how it might be mistaken for interest of another kind - but now I'm pretty sure something much more obvious must have happened.)
