I haven't read that book, and I have no firm understanding of anything, but as regards the "innocent children of the marriage", I think that a REAL man is willing to do what is best for them. In my view, a marriage that is not openly hostile or abusive, is bound to be better for them than living in poverty (or near it) with a single parent. Not to mention the loss of love and self-esteem inherent in that arrangement, since they can't understand why the breakup happened, and a lot of them end up blaming themselves regardless of how it is handled.
