You know the old saying...be careful what you ask for? Well, RT got exactly what she asked for...a ring on the finger (even if it's not real), a marriage to an American and leaving the good life (even if it is in the attic). LOL! The country wants to make certain that this marriage is real and that's why she has to wait a year. In some cases, they send out investigators to confirm that they are really man and wife and living as a couple in a real marriage and not just as roommates.
As for going back to the USSR to get her finances in order, she should have done that before she came to the US. Sounds to me like she's not happy at all and wants to return to her country and live until the year is almost up and then return here to get that green card. Then again, she might have now realized that her "sweet pea" isn't wealthy and doesn't have a place of his own.
I'm glad you are free of this situation and can now sit back and enjoy your new life. The grass for them, isn't always greener on the other side and boy, his little plot of grass is turning browner by the day. I pity your former MIL...she's got a mess on her hands over there.
Sit quietly, the answers will reveal themselves when you least expect them to. The past is gone, the present is a gift and you need to focus on today, allow the future to reveal itself when it is ready.
