What impresses me most in your story CtH is your drive, your energy. This is a skill that not everybody possesses. With your energy, education and experience, you will never sleep under a bridge. You can be proud of the energy you put in succeeding. It will get you through a lot.
By the way, 47 seems fairly young to me. There might be another 20 years before you retire. It's plenty for another career. I see reasons to be optimistic.
By the way, yesterday I read a Facebook post from a friend of a friend who sells insurance: one of his client had drawn on the insurance to cover healthcare costs and stay afloat. The friend was very emotional and immensely proud of having sold insurance to this woman; it seemed to give purpose to his life. Just to say that it's a question of perspective.
