I would definitely consider the shingles vaccination. I could help protect against future breakouts. I can understand why dad is kind of short, it is painful, and frustrating.

I hope your abdominal pain is non of the above. If it's lower quadrant, it is less likely to be pancreatitis. Take it easy, you might be the one getting overstressed.....

The shingles shot can be expensive, but you need to check to see if your insurance will cover the cost of it. My insurance paid for my shot. I was encouraged by my GP to get the shot since my mother had an outbreak and I remember having a little bit of a reaction the first day or so, i.e., flu like symptoms, but at least I feel better knowing that I may have prevented myself getting it or lessening an outbreak if it happens.

BTW, my GP mentioned that they are considering lowering the age limit on the shot since so many people are getting shingles earlier than the age of 50. Barb, you may want to mention the fact that your father got shingles and you want the shot so that you don't go through what he's going through right now. Your GP may issue you a prescription for it since it appears to be only available at pharmacies at the moment and not in the physicians' offices.

Just my two cents.

PS. Barb, I do hope that your father is feeling a bit better. It may take him a while to get back to the man you knew because shingles is so painful.

Please take care of yourself. Stress has a way of making us stop and take notice of what our bodies are trying to tell us.

Good morning. I avoided the ER yesterday but by last evening (when I was alone) the pain was almost overwhelming. I could not wait to go to bed and get some relief.
Somewhat better this morning but tender and very cautious about eating, opted for hard boiled eggs and tea.
I'm convinced it is Diverticulosis as I was diagnosed 5 years ago during a colonoscopy. Had trouble with popcorn a couple of times before but this was unbelievable! Only thing I can think of was chocolate milk. Had some Tues night. I never want to experience this again and only hope it doesn't worsen after eating (I just finished)

Apparently Dad got up on his own yesterday at a more reasonable time. He is now finished his Shingkes meds and cream and maybe it also had made him tired...

I really need to vacuum. Debating if I should or if I should just sit still...

Josh will be here tonight. That makes me feel so much better. It's hard to relax when he is so far away. Ashley is next door and could come over (she did yesterday to check in me) but hate to ruin her sleep when she has worked in the morning.

And on the bright side- Ryan is doing fantastic! He has been for a while. Touch wood. And apparently Chuck called Brandon and took him out for his birthday. He has still not replied to Ashley, though...

Barb,
If I were you, I would take it easy today. Cleaning the house can wait at least another day...dust bunnies will still be there tomorrow! LOL!

I'm glad your father got up yesterday at a more reasonable hour. Some medications can make you tired and his may have.

Well, wonders never cease...Chuck finally came out of the rabbit hole long enough to take Brandon out for his birthday. I'm sorry he's not touched base w/Ashley. I hope he does soon.

Please take care of yourself. Josh will be there soon to take care of you.

Diverticulosis = outpouchings in the colon - very common.

DiverticulITIS = infection and inflammation in those outpouchings = very bad! Can be treated with antibiotics early on, but if it gets bad enough, you could end up like my patient who had to have an ostomy bag for several months before they could reconnect her colon.

See your doctor or go to the ER today - if that's what it is, you could head off a lot of trouble byu getting on some antibiotics now.

Ellie - I did go to the ER and the dr was very concerned. I'm on 2 antibiotics, clear fluids and the couch. I'm not a Happy Camper but I'm going to do everything to get better fast!

Thanks. I'm feeling awful today - didn't even get dressed. First time in years. But I'm sticking to clear liquids - not white wine as Jill suggested LOL. Scrabble, reading, coloring maybe and Josh is out getting a movie. I will survive!
