The shingles shot can be expensive, but you need to check to see if your insurance will cover the cost of it. My insurance paid for my shot. I was encouraged by my GP to get the shot since my mother had an outbreak and I remember having a little bit of a reaction the first day or so, i.e., flu like symptoms, but at least I feel better knowing that I may have prevented myself getting it or lessening an outbreak if it happens.
BTW, my GP mentioned that they are considering lowering the age limit on the shot since so many people are getting shingles earlier than the age of 50. Barb, you may want to mention the fact that your father got shingles and you want the shot so that you don't go through what he's going through right now. Your GP may issue you a prescription for it since it appears to be only available at pharmacies at the moment and not in the physicians' offices.
Just my two cents.
PS. Barb, I do hope that your father is feeling a bit better. It may take him a while to get back to the man you knew because shingles is so painful.
Please take care of yourself. Stress has a way of making us stop and take notice of what our bodies are trying to tell us.
Sit quietly, the answers will reveal themselves when you least expect them to. The past is gone, the present is a gift and you need to focus on today, allow the future to reveal itself when it is ready.
