I find that thinking of it as a drug makes it easier to understand (or rationalize).
OM is a drug. Every once in a while, she has a bad high, they break up. But she's still addicted and hasn't truly hit bottom yet so she goes back. At some point she'll kick the habit but she's gotta feel some pain first.
