Looking for a Spark in the dark

Sadly my friends just don't really get it though. They are telling me to officially dump his ass and move on and 3 months is a fresh start and blah blah. And it's like, you guys, he's been in my life for a third of my entire existence, it's not that simple. And I've been in his for a quarter, I don't know how he's just cutting me out and walking away. I just don't understand how you do that to someone.
