Detachment. Such a tricky little thing. I'll play with your tendency to more Eastern in your thoughts and philosophy to add a couple other thoughts to you. I love some of the Eastern philosophies like Buddhism and Taoism.

Whereas we, in our wonderful Western world, worry so much about how we fit into our relationships and community, the images that we portray, and how others respond to us, some of the Eastern philosophies take another stance that are so similar to DBing. They are about just Being. Detaching away from others' judgments and striving to simply be the best we can be. You can determine what that looks like, and your wife has zero power to determine or change it.

You need to "be like water". Water takes the shape it needs to be at that moment, but it never stops. It is always moving forward, adapting, overcoming. A little stream, a little consistent action can turn a creek into a river gorge with enough time and effort.
