7018 is a good one to start with. It's pretty useful in my line of work, and the material can be dirty, somewhat. 6010 is "farmer rod". You can weld a ruaty chunk of iron with it. Mig hates paint and rust and wind etc. If you are fabbing in a controlled environment, it is easy and pretty. Tig is fun. I am self taught, and don't do it often. So it's a challenge yet. I use it on stainless and some aluminum. It's fun, because you can do things with it that are impossible with a stick welder.
