I dont see any harm in the note. Hopefully that will hive him some peace. Make sure you give it to him at a time when he is more open minded. For some people this may be the morning. For some it may be lunch time or after work or rigbt before bed. You may not know the best time but should be able to eliminate some of the worst times for this.
