COGal, I'm really sorry to hear about your H leaving, as I know it's going to cause you a lot of pain, but I think in the future when you look back, you'll see this as an important moment when your life changed for the better. I don't have much experience, and certainly NO experience with marital breakup (although I could be about to gain some experience along those lines), but I don't have to try too hard to imagine all the pain, heartache and hardship something like this can cause. However...

While it might be tempting to wallow in your feelings, it is EXTREMELY important at THIS MOMENT to take steps to protect yourself - you need to see a lawyer and FAST! You need to separate yourself from HIS debts and HIS finances (or lack thereof) and make sure he has NO claims on you. You need to be thinking really clearly right now, and I know that's not going to be easy, but you HAVE to, for your sake and your daughter's. From what you've posted, that guy is a first-class leech, and a genuine piece of work. I know it's hard to hear bad things about a lover, but I can't see how he can be like that. Anyway, be practical! Let the bad feelings envelop you later - right now you need to think of yourself! Please keep posting!
