I was thinking that depression seems to be a pretty hefty part of the MLC. Would it be beneficial to develop some resources for folks to use, to get a better understanding of dealing with someone who is depressed?
My W was diagnosed with major depression when she was 22. I have dealt with it for most of my life. I have adapted a few things that have helped me.
In the beginning, I firmly believed that if I was positive enough, made her laugh enough, that I could help to pull her out of the depressive episodes. I have since learned that virtually nothing I do will help to pull her out of it. It often has nothing to do with me. I have found that the best thing to do for her is give her space to do her own thing. For her that was usually listening to music and writing or art.
I understand that Michelle has a chapter dedicated to depression in DR, it is one of the chapters I read frequently. Depression can be biological, psychological, or some combination of the two.
I really just wanted to get the ball rolling on this topic, perhaps I have missed it, but I don't think there are enough resources on depression. I have been spending a lot of my time looking into different resources online on the subject and I would love to hear what some of the MLC vets have to say on it.
