I have Amazon Prime too, and use it so often it's worth the annual fee (in shipping charges alone). I also despise shopping for the sake of shopping. Spending money makes me cranky.
Like you, I took apart my carpet steam cleaner on Saturday and fixed the water spray. Now if only it would spray soap... And again, like you, I LOVE hardware stores. Not that I'm qualified to buy the big stuff.
For my birthday gift, I asked Mr. Wonderful to fix D21's slatted box spring. For the life of us, we can't figure out how the main support splintered, which compromised the entire structure of the base. It doesn't have springs in it, which I guess means it's not a box spring, but what else do you call it? Anyway, we made a trip to Home Depot yesterday to buy the wood, and he showed me how to use my circular saw. Memo to me to buy safety glasses. Then he gave me tips on the types of screws to use, so I figure I got a very useful gift from him - along with a gift card. I want to learn how to do more handyman stuff. I figure I'm good with sewing and measuring, so why can't I learn the right skills to do basic stuff?
