I think that you ought to tell him that you were thinking about reconsidering the D and see where he is at. I think it's time for some authentic communication, if he is capable of that. Your answer may be revealed in those exchanges. He may be feeling or thinking differently than you imagine and, IMO, this is not the time to guess. He has put you through a lot, no question, and nobody blames you for pursuing a D, but there doesn't seem to be a pressing need to decide today so I would start talking about things more and see where that gets you.
