Ss, I think you dodged a bullet, frankly. Think of it like dating. It's always hard to be rejected, no matter what... but how much should we care when we are rejected by the LOSERS who aren't worth it anyway? A bit of a sting to your pride, sure. But can you also allow yourself to feel relief that you didn't end up working for a company that not only thinks that way, but is willing to SAY it publicly?? Whew!
They would have had you under a microscope looking for opportunities to ding you on family related items (phone calls, e-mails, emergencies). I am surprised that they actually told you that is why they didn't choose you (it's a foul to ask about those things in an interview, it's a foul to make decisions based on those things, and foul to tell you). They could have just said no.
Think of this as a positive learning experience and an elimination of future tension.
