Ummmm.....well....if it's not a bonus, and it's not salary, and it's not reimbursement for expenses - what the heck else could it be? A "gift" from his boss?
I can't imagine his boss will appreciate being dragged into this. And if it's not a bonus, why doesn't your H attempt to explain what it is???
