This may be all his dad can/will do and hopefully your S18 won't expect more than to have a good time with his dad. He's making the effort, at least, and hopefully you don't have to hear any sob stories when he returns. I hate those.
I'll let you ask whatever questions you want to ask my D20 and her BF - if you need to. They're both kids of divorced parents and maybe they can fill in some blanks for you? And if it helps, they both have struggles that I believe are D-related. Not saying that they wouldn't have had other issues had things been different, but I've noticed some stuff myself. So feel free to ask away.
