I am feeling a bit stupid (more than a bit, actually) for putting the "I miss you" into my text. Like I am feeding him his Ego Kibbles. He did not even bother to respond at all.
I really thought I'd banished expectations of any sort. But I allowed him to bait me and I got caught.
I did not want to be churlish after he remembered by BD. And as Bright said, the ILY and miss you (I thought) should mean something to him. Sigh. They sure did - put the worm on the hook and see if Portia bites. She did. Ugh.
I am not bothered that I responded, but I am bothered by allowing myself to "expose my soft underbelly". No more of that from me, honest or not.
Rat and rats.
Lucky for me, it will likely be a long time before I hear from him again with some other innocous text.
Totally understand your sentiment about exposing your "underbelly" to Skippy. That is one comment I won't give to Ms. Wonka even if my little ego is screaming like a banshee to do so. My cool-headed Spock has the little ego in a headlock on that one!
No worries. Keep on moving forward in that sparkly Portia fashion!
Portia, Don't beat yourself up. The words "I miss you" can mean any number of things. It could mean you miss him chatting/texting w/you, it could mean you miss his warm body close to yours or it could be that you just miss knowing he's out there. It's all in the interpretation and it's nothing to worry about.
I wasn't expecting him to respond back. It took a lot of effort on his part to even send you a card or wish you a happy birthday. He's on Pluto and you got a postcard from there. Now, it's time to get back to focusing on Portia and what is Portia planning for spring this year?
Hang in there. You did nothing wrong.
Sit quietly, the answers will reveal themselves when you least expect them to. The past is gone, the present is a gift and you need to focus on today, allow the future to reveal itself when it is ready.
LOL Wonka, I always did have the gift of gab! Absolutely like your Spock analogy. At least I can say I tried something different.
Job and BM, when I read Job's response about it taking a lot of effort to get me card, I couldn't help but have this image in my head of him lying on the couch exhausted from the super challenging task of getting me a card! Too funny!
A few of my friends also have BDs this week. We try to get together in the middle of them all to celebrate. Last night we got together. I wish you ladies could be there - tons of wine, tons of gossip and tons of "complaining"....did I mention the wine? My stomach is still sore from laughing so hard.
When seen from the haze of alcohol, I was able to put this situation back in perspective and see it for what it is. And I discovered that while slightly disappointed that I received no response at all, I am more than slightly p!ssed. At me for being sentimental (which is soooo not me) and at him for wasting my breakthrough! I can't remember the conversation that surrounded this but my friends told me I was better off speaking to a tree. LOL, I guess you had to be there! They cannot believe that he is still contacting me and calling us "friends". Laughter is truly good for the soul.
Job, I wish I could have had your quote of "postcard from Pluto" handy but I am not sure I would have been able to get my tongue around that one
Know what I like about now as compared to a year and a half ago? Bounce back time is much quicker. And I can laugh about things.
And here is me out there cutting the grass in the spring sunshine - just to rub it in. I really need a bigger mower. Or a pool/garden boy LOL Just sayin'
We had snow on Tuesday and now we are having rain and a chance of severe storms this weekend. LOL! Spring peeks out every now and then, but it's not quite ready to stay warm.
Bea, A pool/garden boy sounds just about right. Please send the spring sunshine our way!

Never mind sending the warm weather, I am coming to visit!!
We are having a bloody blizzard here. In any event, its quiet at work and I bumped into a fantastic, hilarious website. I knwo we can't post links here but Google "Soul Mate Schmoopies" if anyone needs a laugh today.
The blog is a series of 16 mini animated movies that go through the relationship between the WS and OW. Holy Moly, I laughed so hard lucky no one is here to hear me!!
Part 10 "The Big Apology" was one of my favourites - the apology that isn't and haven't we all experienced one of those! Part One was grand as well, so delusional and yet....can't help but think that is probably how those conversations go.
Sometimes all we need is a new perspective and a good laugh (Kind of like reading MLC For Dummies - all hilarious and true!)
Hope everyone else is well and ready for the weekend.
